Sesshoumaru // Appearances
* Volume 2, Chapters 12-18
Important: Sesshoumaru's introductory chapter; Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru are half-brothers who share the same father; uses Inuyasha's love for his mother against him to locate the Tetsusaiga; Tetsusaiga is located in their father's grave, which is hidden in Inuyasha's right eye; witness Sesshoumaru's "true form" (i.e. a gigantic, salivating dog) for the first time; Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru battle inside their father's grave, and though Sesshoumaru is clearly superior, he loses his left arm to Inuyasha's Tetsusaiga.
* Volume 7, Chapters 59-64
Important: We learn of Sesshoumaru's ability to attach and detach limbs at will; Naraku's first appearance, in which he lends Sesshoumaru a human arm to wield the Tetsusaiga, as well as a nest of the Saimyoushou, to handicap/poison Miroku (i.e. his "Air Rip"); Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha engage in battle, in which Sesshoumaru uses his "tail" (not previously used) as a means of disarming Inuyasha; using the human arm, Sesshoumaru equips Tetsusaiga, and demonstrates the Tetsusaiga's "true power" by slaying 100 demons; Kagome undoes the Tetsusaiga's transformation using a Sacred Arrow; Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha continue to battle, and Inuyasha eventually rips the human limb from Sesshoumaru's arm, retrieving the Tetsusaiga; unable to touch the sword, Sesshoumaru leaves.
* Volume 13, Chapters 125-128
Important: Sesshoumaru commissions Toutousai, his father's blacksmith, to forge a sword of equal power (i.e. to Inuyasha's Tetsusaiga); Toutousai refuses, and is pursued by Sesshoumaru; learn of Sesshoumaru's sword, Tenseiga, which was forged from the fangs of Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha's mutual father; Sesshoumaru tracks Inuyasha and informs him of the sword's true power (i.e. "Cutting Wind"); Inuyasha prepares to strike Sesshoumaru with the "Cutting Wind."
* Volume 14, Chapters 129-131
Important: Sesshoumaru is blasted by the power of the Tetsusaiga's "Cutting Wind;" although he despises the Tenseiga, the sword protects Sesshoumaru from being fatally injured; a human child approaches Sesshoumaru in the forest, attempting to "rescue him;" Sesshoumaru refuses the child's help, and eventually recovers enough (i.e. on his own) to stand; Sesshoumaru later revives the child using the Tenseiga after she is killed by wolves.
* Volume 16, Chapters 157-158
Important: Sesshoumaru detects a change in Inuyasha's blood after finding the mutilated remains of Goshinki; the little girl from Volume 14 (i.e. Rin) is still traveling with the party; Sesshoumaru commissions Kaijinbou to forge a sword to rival Tetsusaiga from Goshinki's fangs; Jaken is sliced in half by the Toukijin, after Kaijinbou is possessed by the sword's evil aura.
* Volume 17, Chapters 159, 161-163
Important: Sesshoumaru revives Jaken using the Tenseiga; the Toukijin chooses Sesshoumaru as its new master, when Sesshoumaru's evil aura overpowers that of the Toukijin's; Inuyasha transforms when his life is threatened by Sesshoumaru; Sesshoumaru believes Inuyasha's blood is the same as his own (and their father's); Kagura and Sesshoumaru meet for the first time, in which she comments, "You've got a fine face;" Kagura informs Sesshoumaru that the Toukijin is his, in hopes that he might someday kill Naraku (and free her from his control).
* Volume 19, Chapters 183, 186-187
Important: After visiting a 2000 year-old tree youkai, Sesshoumaru learns the secret of Inuyasha's transformation and "full-youkai blood;" Sesshoumaru later appears, after Inuyasha transforms (i.e. to kill Gatenmaru), battling Inuyasha to the ground, and telling Kagome (and the others) to equip him with the Tetsusaiga if they wish his violent behavior to stop.
* Volume 21, Chapters 203-204
Important: Sesshoumaru is confronted by Kagura, who offers him Shikon shards in exchange for killing Naraku; Sesshoumaru refuses Kagura, though gives her honest advice.
* Volume 23, Chapters 219-223
Important: Rin is kidnapped by Kagura under Naraku's orders; Naraku deliberately leaks his scent in order to lure Sesshoumaru to his castle; Naraku attempts to absorb Sesshoumaru's body into his own (i.e. engulfs Sesshoumaru's body with tentacles), but fails when Inuyasha attacks with the "Cutting Wind;" Sesshoumaru, PISSED, prepares to transform, but stops when Naraku mentions Rin, who is being held captive by Kohaku; Rin is nearly killed by Kohaku, but Sesshoumaru arrives and threatens to end Kohaku's life; because Kohaku lacks emotion (i.e. has no will to live), Sesshoumaru loses interest; Sesshoumaru leaves with Rin, now established as a permanent/regular member of the group.
* Volume 24, Chapter 238
Important: Sesshoumaru continues his search for Naraku, and is generally pissed off (i.e. he was made sport of in Volume 23).
* Volume 25, Chapters 239-240
Important: Inuyasha and his party are badly wounded when Sesshoumaru appears, ripping/destroying the arm of the venomous human Mukotsu, and unintentionally saving Kagome's life (and arguably, her purity); Mukotsu, enraged, showers Sesshoumaru with his poison, but Sesshoumaru is unaffected and slaughters Mukotsu on the spot; Sesshoumaru then interrogates Inuyasha on the whereabouts of Naraku—seemingly his only real reason for stopping by (this is quite humorous, actually); Rin fears Sesshoumaru will kill Kohaku at their next confrontation.
* Volume 26, Chapters 252-254
Important: Sesshoumaru follows Kohaku's scent into Mt. Hakurei, but is unable to pass, due to the mountain's sacred barrier; Rin notices Kohaku, and leaves Jaken behind to follow him through the barrier; Sesshoumaru later arrives, and when Rin returns, he realizes the "trick" to getting inside (i.e. Rin mentions youkai on the other side); elsewhere, Kanna shows Jakotsu and Bankotsu an image of Sesshoumaru and Rin through her mirror.
* Volume 27, Chapters 259-263
Important: Jakotsu of the Shichinintai confronts Sesshoumaru; while Sesshoumaru and Jakotsu battle, Suikotsu appears, attacking Jaken and Rin; Sesshoumaru exposes his back to Jakotsu, in an effort to save Rin (i.e. this is unusual behavior), though is unaffected by Jakotsu's attacks, who strikes from behind (i.e. Sesshoumaru is toying with him—this makes for an entertaining battle); Sesshoumaru tracks the scent of zombies (i.e. the Shichinintai are kept alive by the power of the Shikon Shards) at the base of Mt. Hakurei and pursues Suikotsu; Sesshoumaru, though pained, enters the barrier, proceeding to attack Suikotsu and Jakotsu in unison; Kikyou—whom Sesshoumaru realizes is responsible for sealing Inuyasha for 50 years—makes the scene and uses her arrow to purify Suikotsu; Sesshoumaru and Rin witness Suikotsu's "death," and take leave of the mountain.
* Volume 28, Chapter 272
Important: Nothing really; panel or so of Sesshoumaru, Rin, and Jaken.
* Volume 29, Chapters 281-282
Important: Naraku uses Sesshoumaru to test the strength of his new body; Sesshoumaru witnesses Kikyo's "death."
* Volume 30, Chapters 296-297
Important: Sesshoumaru revives Kanta's father using the Tenseiga; Sesshoumaru realizes the Tenseiga led him to Kanta's father (or rather, that location) and that he should "make note of" [that place] for future reference.
* Volume 31, Chapter 303
Important: Sesshoumaru is mentioned, and even sought after by Kagura, but does not actually make an appearance.
* Volume 32, Chapters 316, 318
Important: Kagura approaches Sesshoumaru and informs him of the entrance to the "gateway between this world and the next;" Sesshoumaru trusts Kagura's information.
* Volume 33, Chapters 321-326
Important: Sesshoumaru arrives at the "gateway between this world and the next" with Kagura and Jaken; in order to gain entry, Sesshoumaru must defeat/destroy the guards safekeeping the entrance; though he attempts to strike them with the Toukijin, only the Tenseiga can defeat creatures of the "other world;" Sesshoumaru enters, and immediately pursues Naraku; Sesshoumaru strikes Inuyasha in the face for damaging their father's grave (which is HILARIOUS, as Naraku's just commented on what a "kind elder brother" Sesshoumaru is for coming to Inuyasha's rescue); Naraku exposes his body to Sesshoumaru, but in doing so, miasma is released, which is of no concern to Sesshoumaru, as he is unaffected by Naraku's poison; after Inuyasha breaks Naraku's barrier with the "Kongousouha," Sesshoumaru strikes Naraku with the full force of the Toukijin; Naraku's body is destroyed, but he disappears, and Sesshoumaru takes leave of the "gateway between this world and the next."
* Volume 35, Chapters 342-343
Important: Kagura approaches Sesshoumaru (again), asking if he would be interested in knowing the location of Naraku's heart; she leaves in his possession a youki crystal.
* Volume 36, Chapters 350-351, 353
Important: Sesshoumaru saves Kagura's life, listening to her story of where Naraku's heart is located; arrives at Goryoumaru's temple and finds an empty grave with an interesting smell.
* Volume 37, Chapters 364-367
Important: After following the energy of the youki crystal, Sesshoumaru happens upon Mouryoumaru and Inuyasha; Sesshoumaru fights Mouryoumaru by pummeling blasts of energy with the Toukijin; the youkai energy of Sesshoumaru is too powerful for Mouryoumaru's body to contain, which in turn, causes Mouryoumaru to flee; it is discovered by Mouryoumaru that Kagura is the reason Sesshoumaru was able to locate Naraku's heart.
* Volume 38, Chapters 371, 373-374
Important: Sesshoumaru detects Naraku's scent; Sesshoumaru appears in a flashback scene with Mouryoumaru; after Kagura is fatally wounded, Sesshoumaru appears; although Sesshoumaru attempts to save Kagura using the Tenseiga, Kagura cannot be saved and fades into the wind.
* Volume 39, Chapter 386
Important: Sesshoumaru is seen only in a flashback fighting Mouryoumaru.
* Volume 41, Chapters 400-408
Important: Sesshoumaru and party stumble upon the Meioujuu, a creature whose shell is hardest amongst all youkai; Byakuya is introduced to—and attacked by—Sesshoumaru; pursues Mouryoumaru and battle ensues; Mouryoumaru insults Kagura, infuriating Sesshoumaru; Toukijin breaks under the force of Mouryoumaru's shell during combat; Sesshoumaru is trapped by the spears of Mouryoumaru's armor; Kikyo purifies the armor; Tenseiga protects Sesshoumaru's body from being crushed (i.e. saves his life); Mouryoumaru escapes, and Sesshoumaru leaves the broken Toukijin behind.
* Volume 42, Chapters 409-410, 417
Important: Toutousai appears, answering Tenseiga's "call;" Toutousai offers to re-forge Tenseiga into a weapon due to Sesshoumaru's "change of heart" (i.e. his "care" for Kagura); Tenseiga gains the "Meidou Zangetsu Ha" ability, giving Sesshoumaru the power to send youkai/humans into the afterlife; Sesshoumaru vows—more or less—to "take revenge" for Kagura's death; Sesshoumaru is mentioned in Inuyasha's group; Jaken sneezes—based on the saying/belief that someone sneezes when they're talked about behind their back.
* Volume 43, Chapters 422-426
Important: Sesshoumaru enters a village forest to "develop" Tenseiga (i.e. practice perfecting the "Meidou Zangetsu Ha" ability); Sesshoumaru senses Inuyasha's presence; stops Rin from drinking polluted water; informs Inuyasha that he has "lost his way" (i.e. lacks understanding of the Tetsusaiga's true power); encounters Numawatari, whom Sesshoumaru later defeats/destroys by sending his body into the "otherworld."
