Unlike his master, Jaken is weak, lacking any significant power and/or skill outside his one and only weapon, the Nintoujou. Jaken is easily overpowered, even by the simplest punch/attack by normal human beings (i.e. Volume 7, Chapter 61). Furthermore, Jaken is insufficient protection for Rin, who has—on more than one occassion—failed to prevent her abduction at the hands of Naraku.

It's also important to note that, while Jaken poses little to no threat, this fact does not discourage him from "running his mouth" and/or insulting others, even at the expense of personal safety.

>>Nintoujou ("Human Head Pole")
Jaken's one and only weapon. How Jaken acquired the Nintoujou or why he is able to use it is a mystery. The Nintoujou appeared in Volume 2, Chapter 12 when Sesshoumaru was in search of the Tetsusaiga's location. It's meaning ("Human Head Pole") is rather literal, as two heads adorn the top of a long stick—a female head and the head of an old man. The old man is capable of spitting fire, which was used to dispose of samurai in Sesshoumaru's introductory chapter. Up to this point, the female head has only screamed, so it is unknown if she is capable of doing anything else. Apparently though, the staff had/has the power to locate the Tetsusaiga, and possibly other items if necessary (though this is merely speculation).

It is possible the Nintoujou was crafted specifically for the use of finding Tetsusaiga, as it has had little purpose/function since. As stated above, the old man is capable of shooting fire from its mouth, though I cannot recall an instant where Jaken has used it recently. He does seem prepared to use it against Kagura in Volume 31 to protect Rin, though it proves unnecessary when Kagura flies off.

Passive, the mount spends a better portion of his screen time being led around at the reigns by a six year-old child. In Volume 17, Chapter 161, we get the first and only glimpse of the mount's ferocity as he breathes flames from his mouth onto the Toukijin and the dismembered hand of Kaijinbou.
